“Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.” – Vince Lombardi
Like many things in life, success as a leader doesn’t typically happen overnight. It’s what you do day by day over the long haul.
John Maxwell: There’s No Shortcut to a Legacy
In this chapter, Maxwell describes four phases of leadership growth:
Phase 1 – I don’t know what I don’t know
Phase 2 – I know what I don’t know
Phase 3 – I grow and know, it starts to show
Phase 4 – I simply go because of what I know.
Phase 1:
What steps can you start to take to learn what you don’t know?
Is there someone that you can sincerely share thoughts about what you need to learn?
Phase 2:
Are you willing to swallow your pride and ask for help learning?
Are you prepared to show humility?
Phase 3:
Give some examples of what resources you could use to learn from effective leaders.
What practices could you keep to be a disciplined learner?
Phase 4:
What kind of daily routines do effective leaders keep?
In this stage; are you willing to share what you know with others?
Teddy Roosevelt:
As a leader TR showed an iron will and a willingness to learn, what other leader have you seen exemplify this?
